      Entrevista de Software Engineering Manager

      17 may 2023
      Candidato de entrevista anónimo
      Sin oferta
      Experiencia neutra
      Entrevista fácil

      Solicitud

Envié una solicitud electrónica. El proceso duró 2 meses. Acudí a una entrevista en Monks en abr 2023

      Entrevista

I applied to an open role and received an e-mail from TheoremOne requesting me to record myself answering a few screening questions. There were 6 behavioral type questions with a 90-second time limit to answer, and maximum 3 tries to answer each questions. It really forced me to keep my answers concise. After submitting my responses, I talked to a recruiter who asked me very similar questions as the ones in the recording. I wasn’t selected to move forward after that, but it sounded like a significant time investment, including developing and preparing an RFP.

They want you to take little short video clips of your answers to their pre-designed questions. The process feels very uneasy as interviewing a candidate should require a give and take. You cannot get a feel for someone just watching a video, nor can you get a feel for the company you are going to work for. No chances to ask anything about the company you will be working for, or end clients you would support.

Be very aware of the time commitment required. There are at least 3 interviews with people who are not your direct manager, and arguably not decision makers in the process, before you get an assignment that takes 6 hours to complete. After that, you get to “role play” the presentation to a manager and director pretending to be the customer for another hour. This is your first experience talking to a superior, and ultimate decision maker, though it’s unclear. The first contact with the recruiter is great, normal. The second interview is with a peer who walks through your work history. The third is a real interview which is scenario-based and very reasonable. A reasonable final step here would be to have you talk to your direct supervisor and do a normal interview. Instead there is another 6 hour time commitment in the form of a fake RFP response followed by the role playing presentation mentioned above. The scenario itself is impossible to do successfully per the customer asks, so to be successful you have to navigate how you handle that. My advice to TheoremOne is to get rid of the RFP assignment and interview the candidate properly and ensure the candidate actually talks to the hiring manager. If you don’t get the job, you’ve wasted 10+ hours of your time with very little feedback. If you get it, you’re going in very uninformed as to who you’re actually working for.

See above. Typical work history questions followed by scenarios about team building and dealing with customers.
