Scoring very difficult due to the move target and added steps with lack on clarity if they really are remote first as advertised…
Summary
- initially was a 3 stage process but quickly after my initial chat with the recruiter turned into 5. Then later 6 steps and 7 calls not including casual calls telling me I’m doing great and a ‘shoe in’ for the role.
1. Recruiter call
2. Hiring manager call
3. Culture calls x3 with different stakeholders
4. Task presenting to panel
5. Hiring managers line manager call.
Further more after step 4 above, they added an additional call with another stakeholder.
The process dragged on for 2 months almost start to finish. Being led on the entire process when ever the recruiter broke down during a call after all steps were complete due to frustration.
All in all in spent 10 hours + in interviews to be told I was the only candidate in the process and then being told that all stakeholders had to approve me to go to offer. Up until the final call, I was told it was all yes at that stage and the final call was a formality.
I was clear around my location the entire process. However, it kept being mentioned. I believe that was the real route of the final answer.
If you are willing to be put through the wringer emotionally and mentally you should apply. If not, I’d suggest looking somewhere else.
Majority of the people seemed great, particularly the recruiter who was as perplexed as me, but clearly somewhere in the organisation don’t put candidates (people) welfare first.

Asked a lot about my location even though the role was advertised as remote first.

I applied for a Key Account Manager role at Marqeta in June 2025 through an employee referral. The process was transparent and well-structured, with each interview stage clearly outlined.
From the initial call with recruiter Jeff to interviews with the hiring manager and team members, the experience was professional, supportive, and insightful. Jeff went above and beyond — following up with me after every interview stage and even sharing frameworks to help prepare for interview questions. Even though I wasn’t selected for the final panel pitch, I left the process impressed and grateful for the professionalism and support I received.

Tell me about a time you struggled with a task—what happened, what actions did you take, and what was the outcome?

I applied online and was contacted by a recruiter the very next day. I genuinely think Lou was one of the nicest recruiters I’ve ever come across as she was clear, uplifting, and helpful from the start. The next stage was an interview with the hiring manager(also super nice), which I unfortunately didn’t pass initially, but it was still very informative and pleasant. He answered all my questions patiently and gave me a clear picture of what the role would look like. Despite the negative outcome, I came away with a very positive impression of the company and its culture.
