The process started off well, communication was prompt, and the coordinator responded quickly to my initial application. My first call with her went smoothly, and she mentioned the next step would be a take-home assignment with a 48hour deadline. However, I was sent the assignment on a Friday and told it was due by Monday at 9 a.m. Expecting candidates to complete an assignment over the weekend, without offering business days, felt unreasonable and inconsiderate of people’s time outside work. After submitting the assignment, I was told I had passed and would move on to the next round, which was supposed to be an in-depth review of my take-home assignment. I asked what to expect and was told it would be focused on the assignment. I spent hours preparing slides to walk through my thinking, but during the actual interview, I was only asked two quick questions about the assignment (one being, "How did you find the assignment?") and then spent the remaining 45 minutes being grilled with behavioral questions - something I hadn’t been prepped for at all. Ultimately, I was rejected. I followed up to ask for feedback, but never heard back. I understand that hiring is business-driven, but if you’re asking candidates to dedicate time, especially over weekends, for unpaid assignments, the least that can be done is providing constructive feedback.
