I applied through an employee referral and then was reached out to by a hiring manager. After a brief phone discussion, I was encouraged to apply online. I went through a short phone interview with someone in HR before scheduling an on-site interview. The on-site interview was 1 hour with a panel of 5 engineers. All were very friendly and asked questions related to my current work to see if there was a technical fit.
At the end of the interview, I was told they would contact me within a week to tell me if there was going to be a final interview (focus on cultural fit). When the hiring manager did not contact me, I reached out to him a week later. I received no response for over a month until I was told that things were still moving in the system. I never heard from the hiring manager again who wouldn't give me a revised timeline. Two months later I got a hold of someone in HR that said they were selecting final candidates in a week. Two weeks after that I reached out again and was told that I was declined for the job.
The red flag for me in the process was the poor communication experience I had with the hiring manager which I must admit is at least better than companies that do not communicate at all with declined candidates.
