After a phone interview, I was called in the next week for a 1:1. They had been searching for someone to fill this position for several months, I was told. During my 1:1, the office had a lot going on with a press release, and my interview was constantly interrupted by phone calls, texts, and people coming to speak to my interviewer. Ultimately, they asked if I was still interested and if I would be willing to do a project for them.
The project was an invitation design. This is common in the design field but in the past, I have been paid for my time (a small stipend). In this case, this was not offered. I was given materials to work with and some background information. I had 1 week to do this project. I turned it in and got confirmation that it was received. This was the first week of January.
It wasn’t until the last week of February that I was invited in for a second interview (and expected to come in the next day), this time with a panel of team members. The interview lasted about an hour and they described their team and their work, and asked me some questions.
I was told not to be concerned if I didn’t hear back right away, and I emailed a few weeks later but didn’t hear back until April. I was told I did not get the job.
I wish the process was more clear, that the team had better and quicker communication. It was a lengthy process without much feedback or information.
