Envié una solicitud electrónica. El proceso duró 2 semanas. Acudí a una entrevista en IVPN en abr 2022

      Entrevista

The first interview was the introductory call. I had an opportunity to hear about the company and the team's responsibilities. Also, I learned more about the product itself. Moving forward I gave a quick overview of my experience and the tech stack I've worked with. During the interview, we also discussed non-technical stuff such as remote work, and the organization of tasks. We also had a word about the anomaly and privacy on the web. IT was a relaxed and great conversation overall. The only thing that was a bottleneck was the Contractor Agreement that the company is offering so you need to take care of paying your local taxes. Also, there is a lot of paperwork involved if you are planning to open a business entity. The next interview was supposed to be with the CEO and it's the last stage of the process. In the end, they decided not to go further with my application and the reason was quite irrelevant. It turned out that "other candidates had much longer/deeper experience with some of the requirements of the company (e.g. Linux, infrastructure management as a senior individual contributor)". However, I'm pretty sure I have met at least 90% of the requirements, especially regarding Linux System Administration and infrastructure management in general. When I asked for more clarified feedback, I didn't get the right answer except that other candidates had years and years of experience in System Administration and some of them had worked with VPN service infrastructure before (although I also worked with OpenVPN which was shown in my CV). Last but not least there was no seniority level specified in the job description so I'm quite disappointed with the outcome of this application as I would be a good fit for this role. What I am highly doubting is that one of the reasons for rejecting my application is the lack of specific information about my organization for paying out local taxes when receiving payments from IVPN. It may also be that my salary expectations were too high for them. Last but not least, I noticed the job posting for the same position was reposted a couple of weeks later so I realized it was all just an inappropriate excuse. I had contacted the responsible person in addition to this but no one has answered me yet. With all of the above said, I still have a good impression of this company and its way of doing things with a security mindset. The conversation I had was a nice experience overall despite their lack of more open feedback in the end.

Thanks for your feedback. I believe that in a hiring process having the conclusion that some candidates are better suited to the position and we progress with them to a next round instead of you is a quiet regular outcome and a valid response. With respect, I hard to see how a conclusion like this can be "irrelevant" in a hiring process? You might feel you are an excellent fit for the position, the hiring company might judge it otherwise. Your profile was matching the job description, and we had a good first interview, then we evaluated all interviews in the first round and you did not make the cut. Most other candidates that our CEO interviewed had much longer experience as a System Administrator compared to you. We advertised the position again as we could not hire any of the candidates we progressed into the second round with. There is nothing more to this story even though you seem to be insinuating it in your review. Also, to address your concerns about contracting - if you look into it, this is not just regular practice, but an inevitable reality of running a fully distributed small business that has colleagues around the world. Hundreds, if not thousands of remote-first companies operate this way fully or partially. It's not feasible to set up companies and hire people in all jurisdiction you employ people in. All of our colleagues work with us in a similar setup and most of us have been with the company for 3+ years. This is just normal practice.
