I had given interview for MT position in the Business Intelligence unit. There are three rounds. HR, Technical and with VP Finance. The BI unit sits at Vakola and reports to Finance Team that sits at Goregaon.

Interview Process Description:
The interview process was structured and comprehensive, focusing on both technical capabilities and cultural fit for the Internal Controls team.
Initial Screening (HR Round):
The first round was conducted by HR and focused on understanding my background as a Chartered Accountant, work experience during articleship, and my interest in transitioning to the mutual fund industry. They also briefed me on the role, team structure, and expectations.
Technical Interview (Internal Control Team):
The next round was with a senior member of the Internal Controls department. This was an in-depth discussion about:
My understanding of internal controls in financial services.
How investment and dealing room controls are implemented.
Knowledge of market abuse, surveillance practices, and SEBI regulations.
My familiarity with tools like Excel automation, Power BI, and Alteryx.
Situational questions such as how I would handle process gaps or suggest control automation.
Case-Based/Scenario Questions:
I was given practical scenarios—such as identifying red flags in recorded dealer communications or designing an automated control for monitoring dealing room access. This tested my problem-solving and application skills.
Final Round (Senior Manager/Head of Department):
The final interaction was with the senior leadership of the Internal Control team. This was more of a behavioral and strategic discussion—covering my long-term goals, ability to work in a high-compliance environment, and my approach to continuous improvement and automation in processes.

‘How would you design an automated control to detect potential market abuse in the dealing room?’
This question struck me because it directly ties into the core responsibility of the role – which is ensuring the integrity of internal controls in high-risk, sensitive areas like investment and dealing operations. It tested not only my understanding of regulatory requirements and practical controls, but also my ability to think about automation, data usage (like using Power BI or Alteryx), and risk-based monitoring.
I responded by walking them through a framework that combined rule-based logic (e.g., monitoring for front-running, abnormal trade volumes, or pattern-based anomalies) with automation tools. I also mentioned using communication surveillance and system access logs, and integrating them into dashboards for trend analysis and red-flag alerts. They appreciated my holistic and control-oriented approach.
