The interview process was very involved with everyone in the office. Initially, the interview started with the president talking about my qualifications. As the interview progressed we started talking about branching out from my editing experience into other departments that I was more uncomfortable with. When I gave the indication that I wasn’t as experienced in other aspects that he was looking for, he started coming off as very hard and cold. I basically had to assuage him by saying that I was willing to work in other departments as long as I was being directed and had guidance (which was nonexistent during my employment). RED FLAGS: While applying for a full-time internship (required) I mentioned that I would not be leaving my current job but that I would cut back my time there to be able to meet the requirement at Henery Press. His comment was along the lines of “They know you’re applying for another job? I would never let you do that.” (Not an exact quote, but it did set off my red flag alert. And during my employment he made it extremely clear that an employee’s loyalty should be to this company and this company alone. This was also used as a tactic to not bring me on as a full-time employee sooner. The justification was that if I was working both places then I obviously couldn’t be 100% committed to my job at Henery Press, even though my involvement at my previous job had no bearing on my new position.) The second part of the interview process involved having the Editorial staff meet and interview me with their own questions about previous experience, favorite books, etc.

Three tough interviews asking a range of questions from editorial to team building. I was also asked about my 5-year goal, which I really hadn't thought about before.
