In order to be hired on as a First Year Tax Professional, a person must either take the H&R Block Income Tax Course and pass, or pass the exams for the ITC. I found that there was no formal interview during my hiring process. I took the course, the District Manager visited our class a few times, and I assume the teacher informed the DM as to who would be best suited to continue with Block. I did have one phone call with the DM before being hired to confirm that I was interested in the job and able to work necessary hours. You pay for the ITC, but once you are on board with the company, in-person training is paid (generally minimum wage). Your Continuing Education time is NOT compensated.

The most difficult thing about being hired with Block is learning Tax Rules.
It was usual personality interview. Asked questions about how you deal yourself in different work situations. Mostly behavioral questions. Technical questions were not asked in the interview as I had to take an exam earlier, one needs to pass that exam with at least 70%.

The hiring process was very easy. Went through the Income Tax Course in the fall and was hired immediately right before the course ended. Everything was done online, the application and the offer.

I did not have to go through an interview. But the most shocking thing is the pay. As a first year tax pro, we do not receive any commission and the base pay is way too low for the amount knowledge that is required for this job.
