Overall, quite a disheartening experience. The whole process took over 2 months. I interviewed with 6 people (recruiter, hiring manager, 2 team members, compensation manager, people ops lead). I knew to expect interviews at inconvenient times from the reviews here - if you’re in APAC, it’s not going to be ideal. The interviews are approx 45min. Read the handbook.
The last interview I had was pretty poorly organised, she was late and unprepared. Spent quite a bit of time justifying myself and my reasons for applying (I’m overqualified).
The interview really tanked when I started speaking about my experience. I referred to my direct reports as “guys”. She cut me off to tell me how that’s not “inclusive language”. I then had to listen to a 10 min monologue about diversity and inclusion - do with that what you will.
I was told they’d have a decision by the end of the week. After waiting almost 2 and sending 2 unanswered emails, I messaged the hiring manager on LinkedIn. I didn’t receive a response to my message... but I did receive an automated rejection email 2 days after she saw my message 🤦♀️.
I’ve asked for feedback - twice - and nothing. Based on the other reviews left here, it’s unlikely I’ll receive anything and if I do, I doubt it’ll be useful. Feedback is a gift, Gitlab. So here’s some feedback from me to you - my candidate experience sucked.
