I am currently employed by another hotel management company in the Boston area, where I have worked for 12 years. I am a Johnson & Wales graduate with a BA in Hospitality, an MBA, and my CHA certification. Throughout my career I have consistently received positive performance reviews, as well as three recognition awards from my franchise. A few months ago, I noticed an open management position with Giri Hotel Management and decided to apply. I submitted my résumé along with three professional references—one from a current Giri employee and another from Meet Boston. Given my background and experience, I anticipated at least a preliminary conversation or phone interview. I was surprised when I never received any communication from the company. However, I did notice significant activity from Giri employees on my LinkedIn profile during that time. When someone within the company informally inquired about my application, they were told that I “wasn’t a good fit,” though no explanation was provided to me directly. Afterward, I conducted additional research and heard concerns from others that made me question whether my LGBTQ identity may have influenced their hiring decision. I want to be clear that I cannot confirm the motivations behind the company’s choice, but the situation left me feeling that I may not have been given fair consideration. I am sharing this experience to provide transparency for other applicants and to encourage the company to review its hiring communication practices. Even a brief courtesy response would have been appreciated.
