      Entrevista

      I have about 6 years of work experience and looking to switch and chart a career towards Data science. I interviewed with Fractal, India to further my aspirations. Glassdoor reviews had already warned me to anticipate a very slow hiring process and hence I was wary and was not surprised by the same. My interview was setup with one person (a technical lead) by Fractal HR. However, my interview was taken by a junior. You cannot be a transparent company if the HR and operations are not in sync. My interviewer seemed less like taking an interview and more interested in waiting for me to slip up, making it a rejecting process instead of a hiring process. Once I failed to answer a question I was told that Fractal is not in the business of hiring freshers and I am not a good fit for the interviewers team. I was told that since I am an MBA he will do me the favour of recommending to HR to find a different job for me. Since we were only about 15 min into the interview including the initial introductions, I pressed on that I am quite interested in an Analytics role. This followed a few more questions which seemed more aimed at embarrassing and humiliating me. I claim no special respect for my 6 years but being shown my place in (probably) a juniors worldview did discourage me from pursuing a change in career path. After a few more questions I was told to choose between nothing at all from Fractal or allowing him to do me the favour of asking HR to find a different role in lieu of my MBA. I have not yet heard from the HR but either way I felt this is a review that needs to be heard by others. A company should not be judged by the policies they say they have started but by the behaviour of the outliers of the employee structure. Cause the top might think they are beyond policies while the bottom mirror behaviour shown towards them.

      Hi, I am part of the hiring team. Apologies that the overall process was unpleasant for you. I checked on this internally. Here is some information that may help address this. Our interviewers often probe to understand the conceptual depth, problem solving skills and attitude. We make sure a qualified person takes the interview, and it can happen that a junior person takes the interview of a senior person. Additionally, we hire for Fractal first and then for a specific role. In this context, it is very common for interviewers to check suitability for a broad range of roles. In the process of doing this type of interview, it looks like the interviewer conveyed the incorrect impression of trying to eliminate your candidature.
