I have 13 plus years of security installation PM experience (CCTV), in addition to PM certifications, B.S. degree and AS in Electronics, so according to their job posting I am a prime candidate but (over qualified due to B.S. degree and PM certifications). First interview was an hour long 3 person panel interview that seemed to go very well, also consisted of a brief test to determine my networking knowledge which I easily passed. Prior to this I took several test via email and I visited the main office to take screening test (although I was told this would include an interview). Upon arrival I was told the interviewer was on vacation so I would only take the test which took about an hour. In the end this process took 2 months with 2 interviews at their location for a total of 3 trips plus phone HR interview in total they wasted about 20 hours of my time. (Aptitude test, Crammer test, Math test, Typing test, 10-key test, several forms to read and complete). Interviewers are very concerned about employee turnover. Not full PM role (Project execution only) so don't expect PM salary. I told HR $60-80K and they asked of it was negotiable? (I was surprised to say the least) I need a job so I went in low, and they went even lower, I should have followed my wife's advise and ended the process then. This job is for a Technician with Audio Video experience only. Others need not apply. A week later, I was asked to come back and interview for the Technical Bid Estimator position . This seemed to be a critical role, but with my background, I questioned the interviewer as to weather this role utilized my skills because it was so easy. I asked for salary details from HR but they were never provided except to say they are based on experience and education. The job description requested an AS in electronics, so I am left with the impression that this is a low paying role with few PM duties. They have different departments that handle project inception and the Bid estimator is responsible for the Project Planning. This may be a good job to begin a transition from a technician to PM, which would explain why they are so concerned about employee retention. Note: I was not asked a single question about Project Management during any of my interviews other than asking of my past job duties. When the Senior PM asked questions, all his questions where about OSHA safety and Audio/ Video. (the two things that were not listed as job requirements in the job posting) They also gave me a list of tools that I would need to purchase myself within 30 to 90 days of employment. (another red flag).
