Contacted through email to set up phone interview with hiring manager. Instead of the hiring manager speaking with me, I was placed on speaker phone with the hiring manager and an entry-level staffer. The hiring manager let the inexperienced staffer conduct the "interview" and just monitored her performance. The staffer had no experience in web content or in general and did not ask any questions relevant to my 20 years experience or the needs of the position. They did not even describe the position or to whom it would report.
The female staffer was arrogant and insulting. It was a terrible experience all the way around. I do not think a job really existed. When I asked at the end of the call about next steps, they had no answer. They were on a fishing expedition. It appears they were just using me and other professionals as interview practice for their inexperienced staffer as a way to get her some experience conducting interviews. Very unprofessional and disgraceful behavior.
At the conclusion of the interview, I emailed the hiring manager and asked that I be removed from further consideration. I let him know it was improper to use candidates as practice for their inexperienced staffers and implored him to show more respect for candidates in the future. In less than an hour I received an email from the CEO of the company, Bill Fritsch. It was an incredibly angry and nasty personal attack on me for simply stating the truth regarding the interview I had just experienced. It only served to reaffirm my decision to withdraw my application and avoid such a disgraceful company.
