      Entrevista

I started interviewing for Delphix in December 2018 and I have to tell you, you'd be made to feel comfortable. So don't fret. I would list each round one by one: 1. I got a mail from their recruiters stating their interest to move forward for this role. After which they asked me to pick a slot of about half an hour so one of their engineers call me. I picked a slot and I was informed that I will be given an assignment to complete in 24 hours. 2. The interview with the engineer was succinct, where she explained the team she is working on and thereafter gave me the assignment and gave me plenty of time to go through it and asked if I had any questions. Post which we said our goodbyes. I did the assignment and submitted it some 3 hours before the deadline. 3. I got contacted by the recruiter after 2 days, expressing that they received positive feedback and would like to move ahead with me. They asked me to schedule a one hour slot. It was also mentioned that this round will involve the engineer giving me a system design problem and asking me for a very high-level implementation. 4. This call seemed a little challenging but the employer made me feel very comfortable by supporting me in the right direction and trying to sound casual and not very strict. I was asked questions for about 50 minutes post which I was given some room to ask questions, if I had any, and he further went on to calm my nerves by mentioning he wanted me to be not nervous and tried to not sound intimidating. (very considerate). He answered my doubts regarding the company, teams and the next steps in the process. I was extremely nervous but I think I did well and then I waited for the results. 5. After about 4 business days, I got a reply from them stating that I have managed to move to the last round with them. Also, one of the managers were interested in my profile and I was asked to schedule a 45-minute call with him. 6. The call with the hiring manager was about my interests and past projects and the project that he works on. A lot of information about how the interns spend their time there and the way they are assigned work. The manager seemed friendly and we also shared a laugh. You should relax and answer him honestly for the conversation to flow smoothly. 7. Post this, I got contacted by the recruiter mentioning that they are interviewing few more candidates and it will be a few more weeks before they tell me the results. Hoping to get this one and even if I don't, it was an amazing experience!

      Entrevista

From applying online to scheduling my 1st phone interview took about a month. 1st Interview: Take-home technical coding question. Involved requesting from an API and outputting certain attributes from it. They give you 24 hours, but you can do it in 1-2, depending on your experience with API’s. I enjoyed this question since you can spend time making your code clean and modular. Interviewer from the call told me about what he does for Delphix and explained the product to me. Apart from explaining that, the interviewer didn’t seem too engaged with the questions I had. I received a request to schedule the 2nd interview about 2 days after I turned in my code for the 1st interview. 2nd Interview: 60 minute design interview. Question wasn’t as broad/vague as a true system design interview, since this is an internship position. I suggest reviewing your data structures and knowing the runtimes of their frequently used member functions. You’re essentially explaining how you would implement functionality without coding, but you’re still talking in technical terms. I had a great time working with the interviewer to solve the problem. Later that day, I received a request to schedule another interview. 3rd Interview: 30 minute behavioral interview with an engineering manager. We started off with my questions about the company, which were mostly about how the product works, projects that the manager enjoyed, etc. Then he asked me about some projects on my resume. I made the mistake of talking about a large project where I didn’t have a prominent role, over a small project where I did. This must have cost me the interview, since I received an email over that weekend stating that my skillset didn’t align with the manager’s team. Overall, I had a great time interviewing with Delphix. They get back to you fast about decisions, which I respect. No dreaded whiteboard interviews. Their interviewers work on important projects for the platform, so they can tell you firsthand about their work. However, I felt that I didn’t have an opportunity to express my interest in working for the company (No “Why Delphix?”). I’d suggest putting the behavioral interview as a 1st round, and have the 2 technical interviews come after that. I would still interview for them again since I’m intrigued by the platform, but I can’t help but feel like my time was wasted.
