      Entrevista

      Colin from CarGurus reached out to me directly a few weeks ago. They move pretty fast there, and within a few days I had a 30 minute screening over the phone. After a few more days, an on-site interview. This consisted of four hour-long sessions, with a total of five interviewers (one was a session with two engineers, one shadowing the other). The first session was a mock technical design session focusing on DevOps topics and questions related to testing and resiliency. The next two sessions were discussions about engineering topics, with a clear interest in personality and interactions with engineering teams as well as other architects - one of these was with two engineers at once on the other side of the table. The last session was with the hiring manager, and was a completely abstract discussion but clearly probing for things like personality, soft skills, and business interactions. They got back to me with an answer very quickly, within two days. While in the end they did not choose to move forward, I found the entire experience very pleasant and informative. Everyone was friendly and quite professional, while still remaining very "real" about things. In particular, Colin is an extremely friendly and personable recruiter who seems to truly care about how things work out for you - even after giving the bad news. Overall, my take on CarGurus as a place to work was also very positive. The office is wonderful, and everyone's stories lined up - it is a collaborative, open, laid back environment. I would highly recommend giving them a shot to any engineer who is interested! Plus the compensation and benefits that were on the table would have been very competitive, had they decided to make an offer.
