I was scouted by a headhunting agency and asked to send in a CV for the position. Later, I was selected for a video interview (I think it was via Skype or Zoom), which was informative and went pretty well. In the end, they went with someone else. Now, about a year later, I'm glad it didn't work out since ByteDance has been laying off a ton of people from that department after the CCP's crackdown on (some would say, killing of) the tutoring industry.
