Got an email to set up a phone screen, apparently passed, then an invite to a technical interview with the hiring manager and two would-be peers. Thought it went really well, but did not get the final offer. The hiring manager actually emailed me himself to let me know the decision. He said that if the offer wasn't accepted by the other candidate, then I was next on the list. Proceeded to give me some encouragement and advice about future applications. Never had a hiring manager take the time to do that before.
