I was contacted by a recruiter on LinkedIn from Express on behalf of Bonobos. I went through a screening (30 minutes), and was rushed through three 45-60 minute virtual interviews with three different District Managers. One interview was at 7am, and two were during business hours which required me to take a few hours off work, and I received several text messages from one of the District Managers to my personal cell phone creating a sense of urgency regarding the timeline of interviews. After the final interview it was radio silence for four business days until I received a generic rejection email from "Express Talent."
Call me old-fashioned but that is disrespectful considering the amount of interviews I was asked to do. I understand not getting a job offer as I'm sure they had several candidates, but the fact that not a single person - not even the person who had been texting me - took a moment to draft a short personal note or to thank me for my time.
I am fairly certain that the reason I did not receive an offer is because I asked about growth within the company and was told by the final interviewer, essentially, that they had just completed a restructuring and that there would be no opportunities for internal growth for at least a year. I followed up with a question about possible developmental opportunities for managers or resource groups to support retail, and did not receive an answer that amounted to much more than "no, not really." These questions seemed to disappoint the interviewer and changed the tone of the interview before she quickly wrapped up with a curt goodbye (no next steps or timeline).
