      Entrevista

I applied online then received an email from the Creative Director to set up a phone interview. He said that I would need to do a "homework" assignment in order to be considered for the position but he assured me that it would be a hypothetical project as to make sure they would not use my work. He wouldn't tell me more than that and said I would get specifics in an email. Once I received the project, I noticed that it was not hypothetical at all and the assignment was actually the exact job description after I were to be hired. I did the work but copyrighted every single page to prevent them from using it. Long story short, they liked what I did but they said due to budget constraints the position changed to a couple of months freelance instead of a full-time position. I scheduled a phone meeting to speak further about the now freelance position. They stood me up for our phone meetings more than once. I figured they weren't hiring anymore. A couple months later, I get an email from the CEO Morgan asking to move forward with me as a freelancer but the two month position was now only a couple week position. She also sent me their "new branding designs" to look over and (gasp) they are using the branding that I created for my "homework" assignment! The work that I copyrighted and is quite illegal for them to use. I asked to speak over the phone about it and we set up another phone meeting. They stood me up again for our conference call. At this point I am fed up with the unprofessionalism on top of using my copyrighted work that they did not pay for. I sent my invoice and explained how unprofessional they have been through this whole process and I decline to work for for them. I ended up being compensated for my work via PayPal. My advice is to proceed with caution and say "NO" to homework assignments that are required to move forward. I got paid for my work but I feel sorry for those designers who did work for them as part of a “process” for a role that ended up only being for 2 weeks freelance. They use these mandatory "homework" assignments as a way to get ideas and designs for their business.
