First spoke to a recruiter who was very professional. Then had a phone interview with manager who had an open position. He described his team, how he felt it could use help, and his management philosophy. We both felt like I could be a good fit and Benefitfocus invited me in for a half day of interviews. There were six rounds of 1/2 hour interviews that day with two people at each half hour session. Very mixed bag. Some of people were sharp, enthusiastic, asked good questions and had looked at my resume ahead of time. A few didn't seem to know why I was there, what position they were trying to fill, and had obviously never seen my resume. The last interviewer concluded with "I don't believe we should hire an outsider for this position--we need an internal person who already knows our software well". I suspect he already had someone in mind. The room where interview was taking place turned out to be double-booked, so had to leave room before final interview was over. Then it got really confusing as interviewer didn't know where I was supposed to go next, and then HR person never showed up for wrap up and couldn't be reached by phone. During a later followup call with HR I was told a salary offer which was $15K less than I had previously said was my lowest acceptable. Why bring someone in if you are going to offer less than they said they would accept
