After several interviews I was essentially verbally offered a job, then heard nothing. I had been away on a long vacation so I followed up via email upon my return and they quickly scheduled another meeting. Things seemed to be back on track, but then I was completely ghosted. I figured being ignored twice was a bad sign and I never followed up. The recruiter was fantastic though. He was not the issue.

I was contacted by someone from their Talent Acquisition department. They scheduled a 30 minute phone interview with the hiring manager. I was looking forward to making somewhat of a personal connection with the hiring manager, but immediately they started rattling off questions one-by-one. After allowing me 10 minutes to ask my own questions, the hiring manager ended the interview and said they would get back to me within a couple of days. A week later, I reached out to the Talent Acquisition contact, and received an automated response that I did not get the job. Pretty horrible experience. They might as well have sent me a list of questions to fill out and send over. There was no soul to their communication skills. I'm guessing they either weren't interested and still "gave me the chance", and/or had another candidate in mind already. I hope not all of Benefitfocus' interviews are like this. The hiring manager was pretty cold and impersonal.
