      Entrevista de Sales Director

      Solicitud

Solicité el puesto a través de la recomendación de un empleado. El proceso duró 3 semanas. Acudí a una entrevista en Bazaarvoice (Austin, TX) en abr 2010

      Entrevista

To begin, I think Bazaarvoice has some great products and talented people. Followed by... however, the interview process with them was a Disaster. As I have seen others comment, the recruiting team is very disorganized as they rescheduled my first phone interview after it was scheduled to start to the next day. That next day it was rescheduled again for the next week (about 30 minutes before it was scheduled to start). Finally, the phone screen was relatively basic asking what you know about the products, competitor (Power Reviews), and what interested you about BV. A week later I was brought into the office for three one-on-one interviews with senior members of the sales team. Disaster. The recruiter, they said, had been let go. No surprise, but wait... I see on her Linked In profile that she started a new job. Funny that you should feel you need to tell people she was dismissed. My interviews never made it on to anyones calendars, so they will squeeze me in. These people have been in back to back meetings all day and its the end of the quarter, they are not happy and I am not happy to be in this situation. Coming from a non-sales background, i was concerned with the interview process and spoke with the (now gone) recruiter at length. Would I need to give a pitch? No, that is done in the final round presenting before a group. First question, pitch me as if I am XX company. I struggle through, but have lost this guy already. He's checking email, playing with a piece of string, generally killing time until he can get me out of his office. My next two interviewers are busy, we find another guy. He is genuine, but he's already been clued in that this isn't going to work out. Third interview, he's busy. I should have been ready for the pitch, that's fair. Myself to blame, but not just me when I am told not to expect it. Pissing people off before you've even started the interview, that BV recruiting is also your fault. I'm sorry that the process was a waste of the sales managers time. I hope BV is sorry that I wasted over a week of networking, moving my schedule, researching, and preparing.

They will waste a lot of your time with a very lengthy interview and pitch process. You'll video chat with multiple people, then they ask you to do an in-depth presentation that will take you days to prepare for.

They expect you to do a lot of work and know their platform during the process.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and I am sorry it was an overall negative experience for you. I can't deny that the presentation at the final stage does indeed require some prep and homework. On the whole we do tend to find that candidates enjoy this part of the process as the deep dive does allow them to better understand some of the challenges we are trying to solve for our clients combined with learning more on the space in which we are working. We do also offer help in the prep either with the Talent Team or with some of the people you've met. I realise these points are probably no consolation to you right now but know that we do hugely value all of the time candidates put into a process so please be reassured on that front.

      - Call with internal headhunter - face to face interview with head of team - spent a further 3 hours with a few different members of staff, one at a time - not an interview per say but they're looking to see if you're a cultural fit - interview with VP department - 45 minute role play pitching the Bazaarvoice suite to senior staff members at Bazaarvoice It's a straight forward interview process, but the role play is tough. If you make it to the role play stage, they just need to see you in action and the job is there for you to lose. If you show that you're coachable , want to learn and want the job, you will get it. Advice for any role you're going for - learn as much as you can about Bazaarvoice. Be yourself. Ask as many questions as you can, incuding current staff members not involved in your interview process.

Applied online and first spoke to a recruiter, then had a call with the regional VP, followed by two separate "get to know you" meetings with employees outside the office. Was invited and flown down to Sydney for a fourth and final presentation - was given adequate time to prepare in an open format, with three people present and one person on the phone.

When you are in the role play, you have chosen and prepared a company to sell to. They then use a barrage of objections and difficult situations against you as you to try and sell. It is very difficult to find a gap, particularly as they have worked with the company in the past and already have explored the answers, while you are working with a grasp of what you have gleaned off the BV website, and your chosen company's website.
