I knew I did not want to work in life insurance sales, so I was wary about the position going in. I had a phone screening that occurred immediately after they called me to set up the interview. My first clue that the company was scummy was when the person who called me and gave me the phone screening simply stated that she was calling from an HR Firm. It wasn't until the end of the conversation when I asked her the name of the company that she told me it was AIL (here, she used the initials and did not mention "life"). Because she asked about my managerial experience, I decided to continue talking to her and I allowed her to set me up with an interview to discuss the position. I asked her what the position title was, she stated "managerial". This also clued me in that the company was scummy, but I decided to visit the company anyways. I walked out of the physical interview about 3 minutes after walking in. The interviewer (who wasn't even the person I had an appointment with) gave me clues that it was a sales position. I asked if it was, and she said it is five weeks of sales and then you will be considered for a managerial position. I asked if it was 100% commission based and she attempted to dodge the question. I then explicitly asked if the first 5 weeks were 100% commission based and she said yes. This is what I expected, but had I known, I would not have gone to the interview.
