This was a phone screen. It was my first interview in over 10 years, so I was nervous. I thought it went well, but I couldn't read the recruiter either way. You know that feeling you get when it seems like they've already chosen someone else, and interviewing you was just a formality? That's the vibe I was getting on this call. Hence the reason I selected "Neutral". I came prepared with knowledge of the company, it's product/services, and recent wins and rankings. It wasn't supposed to be a technical interview, and it wasn't. We talked about the role, the company, my prior Support experience and she asked if I knew SQL. I've been using SQL for 14 years (not including college), so my answer was, yes. She also asked if I had experience with issue and bug tracking software, like Jira. The next day, the outside recruiter informed me I that wasn't chosen to proceed to the next step (a technical interview), because "I was not technical enough". I asked how they determined that, having been asked no technical questions. Unfortunately, they had nothing beyond the reason already given. I suppose it was the Jira question - I don't already know their tracking tool. Overall, it was NOT a bad experience. I just felt they had already chosen someone for the role. The internal and outside recruiters were ALL really nice and easy to talk to. I was excited about this role (it seemed to match my experience)! Their product sounded interesting and marketable. And finally, the location was ideal. I would absolutely try again if another role for which I am qualified opens up! This role interested me more than any other since I started searching. I just know now to be more technical in my non-technical phone screening, next time. Good luck!

3 rounds - HR screening, hiring manager, technical round with team leads. It's the technical round that usually make it or break it for some people. The leads are really looking for someone who can make their job easier and can hit the ground running!
