Very lengthy and stressful process. the initial stage was a video interview followed by an assessment centre with around 12 people. the assessment centre comprised of a written assessment, followed by a 1:1 presentation with a topic of choice and follow up questions, then a technical interview, then a group activity and group presentation to a panel, then 2 more group acitivies.

Air Products Assessment Centre consisted of the following: - Company and scheme introduction - Two technical exams - Pre-prepared presentation to a single interviewer on something related to your degree course (mine was on my Research Project) - Technical interview with a discipline specialist - Lunch/break & office tour. Lunch break involved talking to department engineers/managers - Group Exercise 1: presentation based on a case study (comparing on-site oxygen generation or liquid bulk transport from a cost standpoint). - Group Exercise 2: building a lego bridge given certain 'budget' constraints on materials and labour. General Comments: Assessment day was well-organised and perhaps one of the more difficult assessment days I attended, the group exercise assessors were very reluctant to answer any questions, even if the answer to the questions would not help our performance in the assessment. Effectively, we asked for a clarification on the rules of the assessment, because they weren't as explicit as they could have been, yet we were denied the opportunity to receive any clarification. Clarification would not have been necessary if they had not overcomplicated the task description in the first place, however. Advice to Students: Relax, it's not the end of the world if you don't get the job. Each assessment centre prepares you to be better for the next one. This was my second assessment centre and I treated it as an opportunity to learn how to perform better at the next one - I write this now as someone who eventually ended up getting an offer for a company that I would much rather work for, despite the initial anxiety surrounding job-searching and assessment centres. As with any assessment centre, try not to over-prepare yourself into a spiral of anxiety, but have a basic knowledge of the technical aspects that the given company deals with - i.e. for Air Products, know how air separation is carried out industrially, have an understanding of the basic engineering concepts that pertain to air separation (i.e. distillation, refrigeration cycles etc.). Having a quick read of Wikipedia is fine. Although possibly too late if you're reading this, if you don't already, make sure you have a firm grasp of your degree content (e.g. pumps, compressors, distillation, PFD and P&ID reading). It is expected that you know these things, so if you just learn stuff to pass an exam, you might struggle during technical interviews.
