Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking a Switchboard Operator to support a unique US Navy program based on the island of Diego Garcia.

Job Responsibilities:

• Operate and manage a telephone switchboard to answer, screen, and direct incoming, outgoing, and interoffice calls effectively and professionally.
• Ensure that all inquiries are promptly and accurately resolved or routed to the appropriate department or personnel.
• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of operational processes to provide accurate and helpful information to callers.
• Log and track calls when necessary and provide status updates as required.
• Assist in emergency communications and prioritize urgent or critical calls in accordance with defined escalation protocols.
• Update and maintain the directory database regularly to ensure accurate and efficient call routing.
• Handle sensitive and confidential information in a professional and secure manner.
• Provide exceptional customer service and clear communication when addressing caller inquiries, requests, or complaints.
• Follow all operational procedures to ensure proper usage, maintenance, and troubleshooting of switchboard equipment.

Minimum Requirements:

• 1-3 years of relevant experience operating a switchboard or working in a customer service role.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Fluency in the English language – including speaking, comprehension, pronunciation, writing, and reading.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to handle high call volumes professionally.
• Strong problem-solving and multitasking skills to manage multiple incoming calls and prioritize appropriately.
• Ability to maintain a professional and calm demeanor under pressure during high-stress situations.
• Basic proficiency in using telecommunication equipment and office-related technology.
• Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
• Passport should be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
• Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for the duration of deployment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce is preferred.
• Valid country driver’s license and passport.
• Country visa (as required in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide).
• Experience operating telecommunications systems for a government or military organization.
• Working knowledge of telecommunications troubleshooting and phone system maintenance.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize high call volumes effectively.
