No identity crisis with this company, ROHM simply took the standard unit of electrical resistance, the ohm, and added the letter R; for resistors, its original product line, to create a name. The company manufactures semiconductor and electronic components, from integrated circuits to discrete devices (diodes and transistors), opto electronics, such as light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and LCDs, passive components (resistors and capacitors) and power modules. Its lineup is used in car instruments, DVD recorders, flat-panel displays, PCs, and mobile handsets, among many high-tech gizmos. ROHM competes primarily in Asia (more than 90% of sales) through both established regional offices and wholly owned subsidiaries.
