Ventajas
My brief time with the Summer Study Program offered some one of the most enlightening work experiences I've ever had. In the program I developed my own teaching syllabus and acted as a summer counselor on top of that. I was thrown into the role as a leader and mentor to people in a way that demanded more responsibility of me than in any other job I've ever had before. The program also offers a wide range of activities for the kids and, even though you are there to monitor first, you get to participate as well. This year we went to Hershey Park, saw a live performance of the Broadway show "Rock of Ages," and took a weekend trip to D.C. among many other things. Despite the work load that came with the job, I'm still glad for the experience.
Desventajas
I was never made aware of just how demanding my job would be until my arrival on the first day. You are in demand from the minute you wake up until the time you go to bed. Others had a less hectic schedule than I did. However, my day usually kept me busy from 8 am until curfew at midnight every day for five weeks. I was able to maintain under the work load, but it would have been nice to know about it before hand.
