Ventajas
Great people and great team work. Patients overall are cooperative and appreciative, although there are always some outstanding negative patient encounters. Director will advocate for employees and do their best to retain experienced, vetted talent and work with staff needs (financial increase, scheduling, etc). They have also develped the ER into a major resource for the county's healthcare needs. A good place for a new nurse to develop their abilities in the ER due to supportive staff and director.
Desventajas
Frequently work as emergency room nurse, med-surge nurse and ICU nurse all at once if we are holding admitted pts in the ER, which is exhausting. Often don't have the resources we need to give appropriate care to patients. Few opportunities to advance your skill set beyond either precepting or being charge RN. Little to no ongoing educational support - it's an investment you will have to make on your own, other than required certifications to work there.
