Ventajas

eCollege has relatively good benefits and some extremely talented people. The company is growing and is backed by a international company (pearson), which can give the company some security.

Desventajas

eCollege is growing into a monster filled with reactive managers, demoralized employees, departments blaming each other for mistakes and poor communication. There once was a sense of collaboration and community, but that has been replaced with an "everyone for themselves" mentality and favoritism. Certain departments will promise our clients things that we cannot fully deliver and that throw other departments under the bus.

Ventajas

Work-Life balance can't be beat. I work for really smart and interesting people. I get to tackle tough problems with modern technologies. Benefits are great, and the office space is in a great place.

Desventajas

Raises are a joke. Still fighting with the old publishing company mindset. Hard to hire good people and/or keep them, and definitely various ranges of talent and accountability throughout the company. Also way too many contractors.

Met some cool co-workers, and now I can beat anyone's party stories for the worst things that can happen at a job

Desventajas

First off I will just say that Frontline, the PBS news documentary, did a special on the top 5 most crooked and manipulative online colleges in the country. These are Pearson eCollege's top 5 clients, so you will not have any feeling of doing good in the world while working there. But don't worry, you won't be treated like a good person either. In my time there I witnessed the help desk department heads steal time off from employees, frame 2 of them for crimes because they publicly disagreed with the Director, saw two manager sex scandals covered up, and (and this one is my favorite) once almost was trapped in a fire because they turned off the fire alarm in the help desk so we would work through drills. All for $14 an hour. Stupid me for staying so long. Oh, P.S., once they released a memo advising employees they were spending too much time in the bathroom, and praising our "best bathroom employees" as examples to follow. So, I take it back, that one is my favorite.
