Ventajas
Don’t listen to the begrudged ramblings on here. Verzenay is a wonderful place to work and the owners are kind and understanding. They are more than willing to work with you and they take pride in taking care of their staff. While yes, no where is perfect, the environment here is much healthier than any other kitchen I’ve worked in. If you show up and care about doing a good job then you’ll be perfectly fine. There are a lot of people that are unable to do so and who have a hard time taking responsibility for their own work performance, so you are always going to get people who decide to play victim instead. It’s a busy environment and that doesn’t work for some people. The owners care about their product and their customers and want the staff to reflect that care and sometimes that doesn’t work out. Being an employee here gives you flexible hours, free staff lunch every day, employee discounts, a close knit team, good working hours (I.e no overnights (though some early hours for back of house) and relatively early closing hours). I very much enjoyed working here and there are many others that have as well. The owners always took very good care of me, including extra sick pay and time off when I needed it, and helped me pay for medical and physical therapy costs when I needed them because they knew I didn’t have health insurance. Even to this day they reach out and care about how I’m doing and I haven’t worked there in some time. Everybody is different and some personalities just don’t fit, but the company model itself is a good one and the owners and managers are great. I’m hoping that by providing a different perspective I can alleviate any concerns from anyone considering working here. It’s a good job, and you have a support system behind you at all times when you need it. If I didn’t live a thousand miles away, I’d still be working here and I’d be happy to do so.
