If you are a senior level engineer there is an expectation to perform at a high level at all times, and you will be asked to do tasking that you may have not originally signed up for, but hey that comes with the high pay. Getting approval for conference/training is not great, this point in particular was disappointing for me, because I am a bit of a celebrity in my domain and I would figure that the company would use that to their advantage to market the company.
