Ventajas
I can’t think of any, actually. I was enticed to apply by the promise of a decent pay (18$ /hour) and the expectation that we would be meeting small groups of students in the USA for small group instruction during the regular school day hours. This sounded perfect for my scheduling needs. None of this was true.
Desventajas
The company portal (which kept crashing) asked for my personal information (that I felt strange about giving out online) and put me through some sketchy “tests” which were clearly cut-and-paste from somewhere and done hastily and incomplete, made me pay for a background check, did a “virtual interview” which was me videotaping myself, then said I was “hired” as an independent contractor. Never spoke to a human or offered an actual contract. When I requested a contract there was email silence. When I asked to speak with a human. There was silence. When I explained that I wouldn’t work as a “contractor” without a contract, there were messages sent requesting that I sign up to teach sessions. After that first week, the company had gotten into social media and redacted their “policies” (which were really only on a live Google slide) and changed the pay to $12 a “session” which could be from 30 minutes to 90 minutes with extra time built in before and after for evaluations and equipment set up. I estimated that I would have worked from 10 AM to 2PM and made a grand total of $33.00. IF I had gotten paid (which some employees did not). It was an absolute mess! I left the company and asked that they destroy my personal information and not sell it or use it for any gainful purposes!
