Ventajas

Intellectual freedom, generally nice people. A real community of learning, instruction, and research. Most students are reasonably high quality. Many excellent programs. AAUP (professor's union) protects our jobs and intellectual freedom.

Desventajas

Mind-numbing complexity, RUScrew, still clinging to in-person instruction. Chronic staffing problems in the ORSP and DGCA offices hamper ability to obtain and manage grant funding. As at any large university, money talks, and if you aren't bringing in enough grant funding, you cannot get anyone to listen to your ideas or get promoted. As the flip side to the AAUP, the staffing unions have rigid word rules and make it difficult to hire qualified people and fire those who are underperforming.

Ventajas

co-workers are super nice, friendly and collaborative. Good flexibility in work arrangements. My immediate boss is nice.

Desventajas

Morale is quite low, and turnover is high. We are losing good people and goals are not being met. Senior Leader tell us to do more with less, and do not want constructive feedback. They don't lead by example, taking elaborate trips instead of being present and supporting staff. Rules don't apply to them. So disappointing, not what you would expect from a public university.
