Ventajas

Troy community and RPI campus are active, inclusive, and friendly; lots of nature trails; lecturers, admins, and staff are passionate and helpful; RPI health center is available to students (I thought it was good, but my peers were unsatisfied); stipend covers most rent locations in the area; TA'ing to receive stipend is available for the first two years of graduate work.

Desventajas

Grad life is stressful; advisors can be difficult to communicate with or receive help from, making work feel isolating; academic drive is constant, and juggling time-sensitive responsibilities means that genuine time-off feels irresponsible and result in burnout. the actual workload is at the upper limit of realistic, but can easily get out of hand.

Ventajas

The medical insurance was great. It was a custom plan with low co-pays and no deductible. I worked with some amazing people and learned a lot about my field. This position allowed me to travel all over the country and internationally. We were given the week between Christmas and New Year's off. The best part of the job was interacting with students, meeting them and helping them. We had a pretty lenient work from home policy too.

Desventajas

HR does not actually care about the employees. My boss set me up for failure. The school still thinks it is a top 25 university. They are not looking to the future and are stuck. Even with the the new president of the university is backward thinking and rarely talks to employees.
