I've worked for several marketing departments and have been the sole designer/marketer for small companies for many years. This is *BY FAR* the worst company I've ever worked for. As a marketing director, I was given either no budget or limitless budget for any given advertising medium, but ultimately had zero say in what direction the marketing went, as that was determined by the CEO himself. My problem with that is when these marketing messages (followed under protest) proved ineffective, I was directly blamed to the point of being personally shamed (i.e., "if you were serious about this job, you would not only work the 55+ hours you're here, but you'd stay late during the week AND come in weekends"). I am familiar with manipulative/abusive tactics used to motivate employees, and I didn't stand for it. When finally, one of my paychecks was returned NSF, I was through with this company. Afterward, I ended up reporting them to the Kentucky Division of Labor because my last paycheck was being withheld until I came back and oriented my replacement. This is after I complied with writing a comprehensive e-mail detailing every ongoing marketing project I had worked with. This behavior shows the attitude that the leadership in this company has, and it's one of only selfishness, manipulation, abusive tactics, and all-in-all a hostile atmosphere. The fact that I lasted as long as I did (3 months) felt like an overwhelming achievement. The only thing that kept me sane were friendly fellow coworkers... some of which I keep up with to this day.
