The people below the “officer” level are great. A significant number have been there for many years. It's a small company, so personalities matter here. There is dedication to doing the job right. The benefits are slightly above average, including PTO. When the decision was made to shut down in March of 2020 the two sysadmins went above and beyond to make sure everyone was able to work remotely. They only had two days to do it. Unfortunately, neither of those two people are still with the company.

Desventajas

The company used to be a wonderful place to work. I wouldn't recommend it now. In the spring of 2021 the CEO, Kathy Marsh, stepped down. They did not replace her. The direction of the company changed. The goal now is to get products for sale as quickly and cheaply as possible. The officers all believe they know better than the tech professionals how to do this, resulting in chaos and a stressed tech team that has to constantly clean up their messes. The most recent example of their arrogance is the decision to not hire a new CTO and to just do away with the position. The tech team currently reports to the director of marketing. Pay is very low at Musicnotes. Far below the industry standard, where there is an industry standard. Many of the valuable positions at the company have no comparable jobs anywhere else. These people are vital to the company, yet are not compensated accordingly. Raises are based on favoritism, not merit. This has caused an exodus in the past six months. The job ads reflect the low pay. (Don't look at the Glassdoor salaries tab – someone has been posting ridiculously high salaries there.) The tech at Musicnotes is very old. They still use Microsoft Access for mission-critical applications. There has been a lot of hot air about rewriting them for about eight years now, and nothing has happened. Every so often the idea comes up as if it's a brand-new revelation, there is talk and excitement, and then it's abandoned in order to work on the latest big money-maker idea. Classic ASP is still used in important functions. No one wants to touch it. I would not recommend working for the employer Musicnotes is right now. I hope things improve. It was a wonderful employer for many years.

Thank you for the feedback. We continue to value our team while keeping our focus on producing digital sheet music which creates the best experience for the artist. To make sure our team is rewarded for their contributions; we have engaged many resources to stay competitive with pay and benefits. This past year has been a challenge with those numbers fluctuating in response to inflation. That said, we feel that our salary structure and benefits are on target and raises are given based on merit, following performance appraisals.

Ventajas

Excellent Training and wonderful mission for a company. Musicnotes is one of the few ethical companies that one may work for, knowing that they are making a positive difference in the world.

Desventajas

Tech Department does not resolve root causes to customer complaints/inquiries, so the same scenarios occur repeatedly.

There have been a lot of good people I met there over the years. Sadly most have left or are leaving the company

Desventajas

An obviously declining company. Had been thriving for many years. However, recently the previously retired and out of touch owner stepped back in and has been firing people left and right to push her own new agenda. There are new competitions in the industry that are doing things much better and Musicnotes couldn't keep up anymore. Ownership is attempting some last-ditch efforts to boost valuation of the company back to it's glory days so they can sell the company and retire. They have no concern for the casualties along the way. It's all about money. I really wouldn't recommend this company anymore unfortunately. It's a ticking time bomb.
