Ventajas
My role as a pre-veterinary student intern included so many aspects of shelter medicine it would be hard to list them all in this review. If you are looking for experience in the veterinary field, want to try out shelter medicine, or are still considering whether or not you want to go into vetmed at all, this is a fantastic place to work.
I had an abundance of highly qualified mentors who helped me figure out a plan for my career moving forward. From vet techs to head veterinarians with more years of experience than I've been alive, I felt like I was working with the best of the best.
I also found that the quality of care here was extraordinary. Each individual animal was on a customized treatment plan and monitored daily by multiple people, ranging from volunteers and interns to vet techs and veterinarians. It is great knowing that everyone you work with has the same goal in mind: helping as many animals as possible.
Desventajas
The biggest downside of working here is the sheer amount of work required of all employees. I am glad to have been an intern over the summer, as I felt like it relieved quite a lot of work from the techs, but we were all still working very full days, every single day. At times it felt very overwhelming, but once I found a rhythm it usually wasn't too bad.
