Ventajas
The health insurance and pto were the only good things.
Desventajas
If they cared about democracy and progressive values, they wouldn't treat their staff so horribly.
Cons:
Significant Disconnect Between Mission and Internal Practices: In my experience, there is a stark contrast between the progressive values the organization publicly champions and its internal workplace culture.
Toxic Work Environment: I witnessed and experienced a culture of fear and retaliation. Speaking up about concerns was often met with negative consequences. A clear example involved a colleague who was terminated after they publicly criticized leadership for remaining silent in the face of discriminatory behavior against a religious minority within the volunteer base. This was perceived as retaliation for their dissent.
Inequitable HR Practices: Advancement is based on personal allegiance rather than merit or results. I observed a colleague who failed to meet core job objectives receive praise and a promotion after incurring significant personal expenses for a work trip, which created a perception of unfairness.
Problematic Union-Busting: Management engaged in anti-union tactics during the first contract negotiations, including threatening to challenge the union's legitimacy in labor court, which severely weakened our collective bargaining power.
Lack of Diversity & Inclusion Initiatives: Leadership explicitly communicated, via an internal memo, that volunteer recruitment efforts were intentionally focused on a specific, non-diverse demographic, with no plans to pursue a more inclusive strategy
Inadequate Handling of Harassment: There are serious, unresolved concerns regarding the workplace environment, including how complaints of a sensitive nature are handled by HR and leadership.
