One of the keys to Grand Round's growth is their very solid senior management team as well as board members who have been impactful in the healthcare industry. The company seems to be committed to utilizing the internet and big data to help change the landscape of healthcare delivery to the masses. Grand Rounds had been built on the concept of great experiences for both the patient/customer, as well as the employees. They have a very strong culture that largely expects employees to participate in extracurricular activities that include social justice, local fundraising, as well as a variety of voluntary activities sponsored by the local offices. The pay structure is very competitive, and for their Maine location, I can attest that the healthcare and other benefits are top notch, and employees are allowed great amenities like staff lunches, snacks and other social outlets.

Desventajas

All in all, Grand Rounds sounds like a very good company, because it is. The challenges lie the fact that many of the managers and leads on the Patient Care team are in positions that they may have no experience in, or that they may not have had any previous management experience and therefore don't have the required skills to manage a team efficiently. The biggest issue with the managers is that they are given goals and they feel the only way to accomplish them is to use fear, uncertainty and doubt as motivators and "coaching" tools. They lack interpersonal skills as well as professional experience, and some, lack the skills to perform the tasks that the staff they manage actually perform. The company professes room for growth, but I'm not sure that the opportunities are for every employee. I applied for two available positions as an internal candidate. The first time, I let the hiring manager know I was applying, but got no interview, nor an explanation as to why I wasn't given an interview. The second time I applied for a position I felt I had qualifications for, but only received a form email saying I would not be selected for an interview. I do know I was an older employee, and did not participate in voluntary after-hours social events or activities. These are the main reasons I have never and never will recommend Grand Rounds as an employer to any of my associates.

Thank you for taking the time to offer your candid feedback. I am glad you see a lot of positives in the culture, the genuine commitment to our mission and the senior leadership team. I am sorry that you have been discouraged as you have pursued new roles within the company. Employees' ability to take on new challenges, including taking on new roles, is a sign to us that we are providing opportunities for learning and career growth and we encourage you to continue to explore new roles that interest you. It is helpful to hear your feedback on some of the middle managers as well in order for us to continue to invest in training and expectation setting to ensure all employees are supported in a positive, constructive way consistently by their managers. Please feel free to come to me directly to talk more as well; it would help me understand more about your experience. -- Danielle Snow, SVP Patient Care

Ventajas

Really strong ICs and front line managers. Excellent developer experience and support. Cool to learn Go. I learned a lot in my role.

Desventajas

Chaotic leadership making poor choices with unnecessary reorgs and bad communication. The product is decent but honestly overhyped in the amount of benefit it provides. There’s a lot of drinking the koolaid about how it’s revolutionizing health care which stretches the imagination at most generous interpretation. On call was noisy and frequently woke people up in the middle of the night. Everything was always an emergency in terms of features. If you treat everything as an emergency it just causes people to leave as they burn out.
