Ventajas

If you are passionate about equaliing educational opportunities for children everywhere, then this is the place to be. It is a steady job, not subject to the market fluctuations that are currently laying off thousands of people with my skill set. Despite a bear economy, thousands register for the variety of exams offered by ETS and they aggressively pursue new contracts, and means of cutting costs. Management places a premium on doing things better, and listens to ideas that can grow the company, and those that can contribute to being part of the global educational community, and supporting learning. This trickles down to educational reimbursement for graduate degrees. The absolute best part is knowing that you are part of something bigger than you.

Desventajas

While working in a support location, such as finance, SWS, etc., as opposed to creating tests or working in psychometrics, your position does not allow regular contact with the populations served, or directly contributing to the cutting edge assessments being performed. Another undeniable downside is that non-profit salaries are not the same as in public accounting, and there is no overtime paid. There are also some differences in how different departments are run (dress code, hours, etc.) and that can be incredibly frustrating.

Ventajas

Support of immediate management and coworkers makes coming to work every day a pleasure.

Desventajas

Where to start... First, the employee performance evaluation process and methodology has changed from 1) performance vs your job description to 2) OKRs which were completely unattainable and meaningless at every level to 3) rocks and outcomes which again have very little to do with the day to day jobs of most employees. It seems the burden for goals and objectives and performance management has shifted from management to employees as they try to define a methodology that holds only doers responsible for the company's success. All this since Amit Sevak took over. Management manipulated the questions in a recent employee survey to force responses that made it look like there was improvement year over year. Of course, when you add a new President between the employees and the CEO peoples opinion of senior management is improved. Of course when you shift the focus to immediate management from senior management, the responses will be improved. Try issuing the exact same survey as the prior year and see how much "real" improvement there was in the numbers.
