They both think of themselves as "apart from the sheep" in a way that is frankly embarrassing to any mature, well-adjusted person. Working for small businesses in the face of big tech monopolies sounds like a moral endeavor. However, it is easy to forget that small companies can be the ego project of unprofessional, relatively obscure millionaires who have no idea how to treat others. Companies like this get excited at the prospect of gifted coders who are self-taught or have not completed school and do not have the degree, resume, or acumen to know the worth of their labor.
