Check out the section "Address arithmetic" in K & R C under the chapter "Pointers and Arrays" for a crude implementation of malloc and free. This is almost similar to the poster's 2nd round interview question.

sry fr late reply, i registered it on sum other id. The 2nd round question was to be developed on VisualStudio as far as i remember.. it cud be done in dev c++ also.. i used array of records to keep track of all allocated blocks. nd fr each new blk addition in array, i sorted the recor array. The record wud consist of starting add nd length of record
