First you have to apply online where you must create a mock storefront using the Shopify software for your application. So from the get go they want to test that you are somewhat computer savvy and can figure out how to use their platform on a basic level. If they like what they see you are contacted by email to set up a skype video interview. If that goes well they schedule the Gauntlet. This is about 2 hours of a series of different role playing exercises for example: you are the customer service guru on the phone with a client (interviewer) who needs help with a pretty specific problem on their storefront that you have to figure out how to help them on the spot via Shopify forums, online manuals, google etc. It's really quite stressful to be put on the spot like that for 2 hours but it makes sense why they do it to figure out who has what it takes to be in the role.

its a very long interview process. First you apply online, then it's a mock email, then phone interview then the gauntlet. They're super selective in their hiring, but its worth it in the end
Hello, there!
Thank you for sharing your experience. We appreciate the time and effort you put into our interview process. Our interview processes are designed to get applicants familiar with the type of questions and channels that they might be handling in the position they’re applying for. We’re happy to see that you were offered a position and you’ve accepted! Looking forward to seeing you grow here at Shopify.
Again, thank you for your feedback.

I applied to Shopify in December 2017.
I applied online and had to build a trial store for the application, which was a little tedious but I was glad I took the time to do it. They've since changed their hiring process so it's no longer mandatory but optional (I highly recommend doing it, it will give you a feel for their platform). Within a couple weeks I had heard back from them and scheduled my "Life Story" call, which was strange at first but it was relaxed, it was more of a conversation than an interview. I was told at the beginning of the chat that I would know at the end of the 30 mins if I had made it on to the next step or not, luckily I did and I was on to the Gauntlet. I received an email shortly after to book the Gauntlet, I chose to book it for the following week - giving myself some time to study (I think this has also changed, they are trying to line it up to be right after your Life Story call).
The Gauntlet was 1 chat, 1 email and 1 phone call. Remember to breathe, and really listen to the "Merchant". Don't make assumptions, and try to be as natural as possible. After I finished the Gauntlet (which was 45 mins) I was told I'd hear back regardless within a few days, which I really appreciated. Who likes waiting around to know if they got the position or not?! At the end of day 2 I received an email saying I'd got it, SO exciting! The overall process did involve putting some time into it, but it was a great experience and you have to appreciate that they're trying to make sure you're a good fit. But it also allows you to see if you would like it as well.
My advice - if you get an invite to the Life Story, and this is a position you really want, start doing your research and digging deeper. Look through the help sections on their website, and the forums for commonly asked questions etc. Try to find those answers for yourself. They won't try to trick you, everything they ask is online somewhere. And if you haven't done so by this point, build a trial store. It will help you navigate and get a better handle on it.

First the application which generally building a shopify store, then the life story with a member of the recruiting team, then moved onto the Gauntlet which would "simulate" a day in the life of-or rather bits and pieces of all of the CS tasks.
