The recruiter reached out. Pocket Gems was looking for a tech lead / manager hybrid thing for their in-house analytics group. Sure, I'm game. Why not? The recruiter said there would be two technical phone interviews and sent me the Programming Interviews Exposed (PIE) book. Lol. You know in the preface it says NOT to interview like this, right? First interview was OK. The question was presented as "intentionally vague" as if that made it edgy and exciting. It's a 3 sentence problem statement - get real. At least the interviewer was nice enough to follow along and actually helped build the test for it collaboratively. Bravo! Second interview was awful. A question straight from PIE and the interviewer didn't follow along or collaborate - definitely distracted and disinterested. What about coding examples of things that are actually done on the job? I appreciated the opportunity to see the inside workings of PG.
