Their job description omitted at least 2 pertinent facts that any applicant should be aware of up front: their clients are all obscure rural telecom or evangelical nonprofits. Some of this is apparent from a glance at Pivot's website, but even then it takes some digging through back pages BEFORE the agency fesses up to being 80% no-name telecom. And it's obvious Pivot doesn't aspire to anything beyond that. Hiring manager more or less came right out and confessed that having big brand clips on my portfolio would be held against me. Office has a cutesy log-cabin-ish vibe complete with taxidermy accents, but is in a horrible location (suburban Tigard) with skimpy Trimet service and NOWHERE to go for lunch. They were also incredibly dodgy about compensation -- refusing to single out a ballpark range. Fascinatingly, the hiring manager also told me that he didn't want a yes person, that he wanted a writer who would disagree with and argue with him. I told him I would argue with him. If one looks at the backgrounds, however, of company employees, most of them tend to hail from religious-affiliated schools or have worked in churches. So he doesn't want to be agreed with all the time, but won't hire anyone with a differing perspective. Hmmmm???
