I recently had an interview experience with Micro1, and unfortunately, it was extremely unprofessional and felt borderline exploitative.
The role was listed as North America-based, but for the second interview phase, I was asked to stay up until 3 AM to meet with someone from India, who, interestingly, didn’t show up. Instead, I received an email saying we’d meet at 5 AM, without any consideration for time zones.
During the technical interview, the interviewer seemed unprepared and lacked the domain knowledge to ask relevant questions. I still went through with it, and eventually, I was told to schedule a final meeting with their CEO (Ali Ansari), which honestly felt odd. Even the recruiter seemed confused and kept asking me what happened in each interview step.
In the final phase, I was told to build a full project (video calling app with auth, React UI, serverless backend, etc.) which was supposed to be compensated. I worked over 20 hours across a week, submitted the project, and then received a generic rejection email. No feedback. No compensation. Nothing.
It genuinely feels like they’re exploiting candidates to get free work done under the pretense of "interview projects."
Be very cautious, they wasted a lot of my time and energy.
