Envié una solicitud electrónica. El proceso duró 3 semanas. Acudí a una entrevista en Institute of Reading Development en ene 2019

      Entrevista

The interview process started with an online app. Then someone would schedule a video interview to ask some pretty regular interview questions about strengths, etc. and then some practical applications, for example what you would do in different teaching scenarios.

      Entrevista

Multiple "online" interviews, fairly easy and communicative interview process. They made me do some on the spot teaching role play, which was not too hard. They also asked questions about the kinds of books I like, and what I think about certain characters.

      Entrevista

I applied online and submitted a one-way video. Those parts t were pretty easy. The interview I had was unlike anything I have ever experienced, if I could describe it in one word it would be SEXIST. For one, the interviewer (a guy) asked my what my favorite books were and after I shared the literature I enjoy reading he stated that those types of books (and literary criticism) were not accessible to the children in the program. Of course not! He asked me about my personal favorites not what I would choose for the children. Then he asked me what I would do in a scenario and I went on to describe what I would do. He then told me he would do it differently and took about 3 minutes to role play how he would talk to a mother-mind you he never asked me to role-play. He also told me I needed to seem more "perky and enthusiastic" and he completely policed my tone. He asked my what type of car I drove (oddest question ever) and when I disclosed that I drive a luxury car, he could not hold back his facial gestures. He then asked me if I could worked outside of my assigned area should a need arrive and I said yes. He asked me the same question 3 different ways and I kept saying yes (probably because I disclosed that I have a child myself.) For several months of work, over 40 hours per week, and really inconvenient commutes...I am very happy I ended being able to choose from three very competitive internships and that I did not end up here. My advice to women is that you might have to play up being "perky", hide your children, and by all means pretend you drive a Honda as to not hurt the fragile ego of the bitter hiring teacher who has less to show for.

We ask the same questions of every teacher that we interview. Our questions are designed to determine how well applicants will work with students of different ages and to make sure they meet the logistical requirements of the job. We ask all applicants if they have a car that they can use to transport books and other student materials. We also like to confirm that the applicant understands that they might have to travel for teaching assignments. The entire interview is meant to determine if the job is a good fit for the applicant. The Institute of Reading Development is committed to employment policies and practices based upon individual skill, ability, performance, effort, and professional conduct. The spirit and intent of the laws prohibiting discrimination are fully implemented in all working relationships at the Institute. We provide equal employment opportunities for all applicants and employees irrespective of sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, or any other protected status, in all the Institute’s employment practices. - Josh Kizner, COO
