      Entrevista de Software Developer

Envié una solicitud electrónica. El proceso duró 3 semanas. Acudí a una entrevista en CoverMyMeds (Columbus, OH) en sept 2015

      Entrevista

The interview process consisted of three parts. In the first part, I had a phone interview with one of their technical recruiters. She introduced me to the company, asked some background questions, and did a high-level review of my relevant experience. Unlike many recruiter-types I've dealt with, she seemed to understand the technical parts of the discussion. She was able to ask reasonable clarifying questions and pick up side topics that fleshed out a view of my experience. She finished it up by describing the rest of the process. This was definitely a positive experience. In the second part of the process, I did a screen shared coding exercise. Despite some initial technical difficulties, we were able to run through the three part exercise. The first part was a little rocky due to the fact that my JavaScript is a bit out of date. But, the rest of the coding exercises went much better. Once again, this had been a positive experience. In the final part, I went to Ohio for a "Code Day". I was given specs for a project to code for the day. I would interact with their team at different times, including a "customer", a DBA, and a few developers. The process gave some indication of how work would go on a normal day in their offices. The interaction with the developers also gave me an idea of the culture of the place and should have given them a chance to evaluate how I would work with the culture. The problem was hard enough not to be solvable in one day, but not so hard as to be overwhelming. The project required quite a bit of prioritization to have any chance of a demo. At the end of the day was a presentation, where I showed what I had done, described what I would do next, and answered questions about the design and code. The whole process was very pleasant and positive. I suspect that the process is a great way to get a "feel" of a candidate rather than just focusing on qualifications.

      Pregunta 1

The coding exercise they asked me to do was the best interview question I have ever had. They provided mockups, a "customer" to answer questions, and access to other staff to answer questions (and evaluate how I was doing). This is much closer to a real-world test of fit than the normal interview process.

      Entrevista

I got through 2 rounds of interviews, one being a phone screen and the other being technical. The technical interview was initially scheduled for a week after the initial phone call but was rescheduled for two weeks afterward due to unforeseen circumstances. I thought it wasn't a big deal; things happen. When interview day came, I joined a Microsoft Teams meeting and sat there for roughly 30 minutes without anyone joining before leaving. I sent a follow-up email to the recruiter asking why I sat in a meeting nobody attended. Near the end of the day, I got a response stating that the interviewer had something come up, so they couldn't attend. That left a sour taste in my mouth, but I continued rescheduling again against my better judgment. Once the day finally came, I was greeted by two seemingly friendly people, one engineer and the hiring manager. From there, I was tasked with doing three problems, each in different coding languages, and was told I couldn't look anything up. Both interviewers were distracted and didn't care very much about what I was doing. For reference, these weren't leetcode-style problems; one was solving a particular whiteboard-style problem. A couple of times, I needed help with specific syntax that could be found in a simple Google search. I was blankly stared at. After the meeting concluded, I sent two follow-up emails, but I didn't get a response. I was completely ghosted. Overall, it was a pretty terrible experience, and I'm glad I was spared.

      Entrevista

After completing two rounds of interviews, including a technical interview with an HR representative followed by a Teams interview with two hiring developers, the HR team has not provided any further communication, which led to a lack of closure in the process.
